Your thoughts on this

Have you ever seen such a maxi skirt? I bet you can't find a skirt crazier than this one. Who would wear this? I think it's actually self made: the hem is basted by hand and the seams are unfinished. I found it at a second hand shop in Bergen and I bought it for the fabric. At first I had grand ideas: I wanted to cut off most of the bottom and make the skirt fit into a high waisted pencil skirt. With the remains I would make this wrap top. Or, just lift the whole thing up and make a fitted dress. But then Stef said: this is way too much 80's print. How are you going to make this look modern? Why not use it as lining, or accents? And seeing as he is usually right, I don't know what to do anymore. People, what would you do with this fabric?

  1. I don't think it looks too 80s- It would look fab as a dress!

  2. Wow, that skirt is huge!

I think you can use it as a fabric, as long as you don´t make it into something that has an 80s silhouette. I really like the idea of a high waisted pencil skirt (just make sure it´s 50s, not 80s), but I´d skip the wrap top.

  3. Thanks for your comments! What would be the difference between an 80's and an 50's pencil skirt? I think you're right about the wrap top. Maybe I will have enough to make a dress ánd a pencil skirt.

  4. It doesn't scream 80s to me---it's not an 80s silhouette, and the geometric print is modern but not particularly dated, in my opinion. I actually pretty much love it as is, but I'm a maxi-skirt kind of girl ;). The waistband does look a little big on you, though. I'd say it's your call---how would you wear it more: as is, chopped down, or just used as fabric? :)

  5. I don´t think the print looks too 80s or dated. I would make a dress, if there is enough fabric. Such an interesting print!

  7. So apparently there ARE people who would wear this! :) I'm going for a pencil skirt (and indeed I have to take in the waistband a little bit), and the see if I can make a dress out of the rest, probably combined with other fabric. Thanks all for your feedback!

  8. I would totally wear it, as is....although a pencil skirt would be cool too. I'd pair it with a fitted black shirt with a tie collar.

  9. Make whatever you want with it, you have the style to carry the fabric and I think the fabric is pretty cool as is, anyway!
