Sample Sewing: Folded (Not So) Mini

I'm hoping you'll be pleased to see this one! It's Sample nr. 2, the longer version of the folded mini. A lot of people requested a longer version, and now that I've made one I'm convinced that this is a really good option too! Due to the nature of the folds I had to draft a completely new pattern for it. It was a good opportunity to test my adjustments and choose a technique for the zipper. The silhouette hasn't changed, it's still a fitted skirt that accentuates your feminine curves.





The fabric is a medium weight knit, lined with a navy interlock knit. This was much easier to work with than the slinky knit. Again there are no exposed seams on the inside dus to the way it is put together. Yay for not having to finish seams :) I basicaly added one extra fold to get the length. These horizontal stripes do make me look a bit big, but that's also due to the way I'm wearing it. Normally I wear a cardigan on top which balances it out a bit more.





I chose to do an exposed zip at the cb, because a side one would be messy with all that fabric. I really like it, it feels like it fits the style of the skirt. Only maybe it could be 1 or 2 cm's shorter, no? And I'm also thinking this would be really good paired with a navy blazer. I need one more sample to check if my instructions are correct. It'll probably be a long version again, this skirt is so warm and cozy! And I can wear it on more occasions than the short version. I'm already thinking of putting up an Etsy shop to sell some samples. There must me someone else with an off the scale hip/waist ratio, right? After that, it's time to digitalize it and find some pattern testers! So tell me, is this what you had in mind?

    I really like the folded stripes, and the long version makes it wearable in the office to. Or on a date. I absolutely love it!

    About the zipper: maybe a hidden zipper (where the fabric goes over the zipper) would have prevented the breaking of the horizontal lines of the fabric. Anyway, I don't really mind. Just something you could think about.

    I quite like the zip, yeah it could be 1-2cm shorter but it's nice and suits the skirt.

    i love it.. it's fabulous skirt, and i would want to have one.. and, dammit, don't get what's the fuzz about the zipper.. i like the one you put! but even if i wouldn't - it's an easiest thing on planet to use a different one - invisible, lapped, big chunky metallic one all the way to lower hem, even the bloody buttons - possibilities are endless, everyone can find what works best for them

    It's fab. I really don't suit a line or gathered skirts. So a casual, comfy tight skirt is excellent.

    When I was thinking in a longer version, that was, that I had in mind! Now, I think in the possibilities with different fabrics...wool or something lighter for the summer. I believe that with the zipper, I can sew it, in many differents ways!!!

    Love the skirt at this length, how much fabric has this been taking to make up? if you put a centre back seam in this may be better for fabric economy - and make it easier to do different treatment on the zipper for those who don't like the exposed look.

      The fabric requirement depends on the folded front, not the back. And I don't like center back seams :) But I'll do a blogpost to show different closure options. No worries!

    I like this skirt very much, it really looks great! And I think the length is just perfect. May I know how tall you are?
    I am 1,82m, so many skirts are way too short for me...

    Looks gorgeous! And you're right, the exposed zipper really suits it. Makes it look even better! I love it down the centre back and I don't think it needs to be shorter either.

    I agree with you about maybe shortening the zipper a tiny bit, but this length zip might be better on a different body type. You seem petite, and a shorter zipper right above you bum would be cute! Good choice on the CB too.

    I'd also love to throw in my hat as a pattern tester, when you get to that stage!
